The Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, suffered a torn right Achilles tendon and is out for the rest of the season.
What happened
During the Colts’ Week 14 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones went down on a non-contact play after completing a short pass and immediately grabbed the back of his right lower leg. He was helped off the field, evaluated in the medical tent, then ruled out with an Achilles injury and later diagnosed with a torn Achilles that will require surgery, ending his season.
Injury context
Jones had already been playing through a fractured left fibula, so this new injury is to the opposite leg and is considered unrelated but adds to his recent health issues. The injury is a major setback both for Jones, who was having a strong bounce-back year with Indianapolis, and for the Colts’ playoff hopes.
Current QB situation
With Jones out, backup Riley Leonard is now the only healthy quarterback on the Colts’ 53-man roster, with Brett Rypien on the practice squad. The team is expected to move forward with Leonard as starter while exploring additional quarterback options and elevations for upcoming games.
