Travis Barker, the drummer for Blink-182, was involved in a fatal plane crash on September 19, 2008. The small aircraft he was on, along with two pilots, his security guard (Charles Still), personal assistant (Chris Baker), and friend DJ AM, was flying from South Carolina to California when it experienced a mechanical failure during takeoff. The crash resulted in the deaths of both pilots, Still, and Baker, while Barker and DJ AM managed to escape with second-degree burns.
Barker suffered burns covering 65% of his body and almost had his right foot amputated. He spent 11 weeks in the hospital, undergoing 27 different surgeries and skin grafts. The plane crash had a significant impact on Barkers life, causing him to develop PTSD and experience suicidal thoughts. He did not fly again for 13 years after the accident.
In addition to the plane crash, Barker has faced other health issues and injuries throughout his career. In 2018, Blink-182 postponed their Las Vegas residency shows due to blood clots found in Barker's arms. In June 2022, he was hospitalized for severe, life-threatening pancreatitis, which was a result of a small polyp removal during an endoscopy that damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube.
