Today in Michigan, a tragic mass shooting and fire occurred at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford, a former Marine veteran, drove his vehicle through the church's front doors during a Sunday service, then opened fire on the congregants using an assault rifle. He also deliberately set the church on fire using an accelerant believed to be gasoline. The attack resulted in at least four people killed and eight others injured, with the suspect also killed in a confrontation with police. Explosive devices were found at the scene, and bomb threats were reported to other churches in the area afterward. The FBI has taken over the investigation, treating it as an act of targeted violence. The community and officials including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer condemned the violence and praised first responders for their quick action. Security measures have increased at places of worship in several cities following this incident.
