A Class C license is a type of drivers license that allows drivers to operate vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, or transport freight classified as hazardous materials (hazmat) . It authorizes the driver to operate a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or less, or a single vehicle towing a trailer or vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR. A holder of a Class C license may drive all vehicles that may be driven by a holder of a Class E or Class F license. The Class C CDL is slightly different from the Class A CDL and Class B CDL classifications when it comes to training, and the recent Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) entry-level driver training regulation (ELDT) doesn’t apply to Class C CDLs.
