A mild fever is a body temperature slightly above normal, but below what is considered a fever. There is no standard range for a mild fever, but many healthcare providers consider a body temperature between 99.5 degrees F (37.5 degrees C) and 100.3 degrees F (38.3 degrees C) to be a low-grade fever. A low-grade fever is usually not a cause for concern and can actually help the immune system fight off an infection. Most cases of mild fever resolve by themselves within a couple of days. If the fever is mild, less than 101 degrees F (38.3 degrees C), it usually doesn’t need to be treated with medication, but it is important to drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest. However, if the fever lasts longer than three to five days or if it’s accompanied by other worrisome symptoms, such as confusion or the inability to eat or drink without vomiting, it is recommended to see a doctor.
