A subdomain comes before a second-level domain (SLD) in a URL. The most common subdomain is www, which stands for World Wide Web. This subdomain contains a website’s homepage and its most important pages. However, there are many other subdomains that can be used.
Subdomains are defined by editing the DNS zone file pertaining to the parent domain. They can be used for different purposes such as creating a testing or staging version of a website, creating an online eCommerce store, or managing extensive sections that require their own content hierarchy, such as online stores, blogs, or support platforms.
To create a subdomain, you need to log in to your domain registrar account and navigate to the DNS management section. From there, you can add a new record and specify the subdomain name and IP address.
