An executive producer (EP) is a top-level position in the making of a commercial entertainment product, such as a film, television show, web series, commercial, or theater performance. The EP is usually the financier of the project and is responsible for ensuring that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to artistic and technical standards. They may work independently or on behalf of the studio, financiers, or distributors. The EP may also be involved in legal, scripting, marketing, advisory, and supervising capacities. In TV, an EP may also be the creator/writer of the series. The EP is responsible for making major strategic decisions, such as what script to acquire, how to finance a project, and what distribution strategy to roll out. The EP manages budgets and serves as a high-level supervisor throughout the entire lifespan of a project, including its development, production, post-production, and distribution. The EP is usually not involved in the actual filmmaking process, and their financial role is their primary focus.
