Brent refers primarily to a type of crude oil that originates from the North Sea. It is a light and sweet crude oil with low sulfur content, making it ideal for refining. Brent crude oil is also a major global benchmark for oil prices, used to set the price for about two-thirds of the world's internationally traded crude oil supplies. The term "Brent" can also refer to the Brent oil field in the North Sea, initially the source of this crude, and the various physical and financial markets related to Brent crude oil trading. Brent crude is notable for being waterborne, facilitating easier global shipping compared to landlocked crudes. It is one of the two main global oil price benchmarks alongside West Texas Intermediate (WTI).
