Perseus is a legendary hero in Greek mythology, known for his heroic deeds and slaying of monsters. He was the son of Zeus and Danaƫ, the daughter of Acrisius of Argos. Some of his most famous feats include beheading the Gorgon Medusa and saving Andromeda from a sea monster. He was also the founder of Mycenae and of the Perseid dynasty. Perseus married Andromeda and became the ancestor of the royal houses of Mycenae, Elis, Sparta, Messenia, and distant Persia.
