Primate

Primates are a diverse order of mammals that includes a wide range of species such as lemurs, galagos, lorisids, tarsiers, monkeys, apes, and humans. They typically have large, highly developed brains, forward-facing color vision, flexible hands and feet with opposable thumbs, and fingernails. Primates are known for their social behavior, slower rates of development, and longer lifespans compared to other similarly sized mammals. They are also the most intelligent animals and are known to use tools. The primate order is divided into two suborders: the strepsirrhines, which include lemurs, galagos, and lorisids, and the haplorhines, which include tarsiers and simians (monkeys, including apes and humans). The primate brain is larger than that of other terrestrial mammals when compared with body weight, and their eyes face forward, allowing for overlapping visual fields. The ancestor of primates is believed to have been a predator, possibly insectivorous. Fossils of the earliest primates date back to the Early Eocene Epoch, around 56 to 41.2 million years ago. There are over 500 species of primates, with humans being one of them, making the order Primates the third most diverse order of mammals.
