Quiara AlegrÃa Hudes is an American playwright, producer, lyricist, and essayist. She is best known for her work in theater, particularly for writing the book for the musical "In the Heights" (2007), which won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was later adapted into a film. Hudes first play in her Elliot Trilogy, "Elliot, A Soldiers Fugue," was a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and she received the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for "Water by the Spoonful," her second play in that trilogy. Hudes has also collaborated with renowned musicians, including Nelson Gonzalez and Erin McKeown. In addition to her work in theater, Hudes has written a memoir titled "My Broken Language" and was the screenwriter for the animated film "Vivo".
