Robotics is an interdisciplinary field that involves the design, construction, operation, and use of robots. The goal of robotics is to create machines that can help and assist humans in various practical purposes, whether domestically, commercially, or militarily. Robotics integrates fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information engineering, mechatronics engineering, electronics, biomedical engineering, computer engineering, control systems engineering, software engineering, mathematics, and more. Robots are automatically operated machines that carry out a series of actions independently and do the work usually accomplished by a human. Robotics is widely used in manufacturing operations, such as the inspection of pipelines for corrosion and testing the structural integrity of buildings. Robotics is also used in hazardous jobs such as defusing bombs, finding survivors in unstable ruins, and exploring mines and shipwrecks. Robotics is also used in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) as a teaching aid.
