Skol is a Danish-Norwegian-Swedish-Icelandic-Faroese word for "cheers" or "good health," a salute or a toast, as to an admired person or group. It is also the fight song of the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. The Skol chant was introduced as part of the fans tradition when the Vikings moved to U.S. Bank Stadium. Inspired by Iceland's national soccer team, Viking fans now raise their hands and clap twice to the beat of a drum before yelling "Skol!". The Vikings have been using "Skol" since their introduction as a franchise in 1961, as it was part of their fight song. The word "Skol" is a derivative of the Swedish/Danish/Norwegian word "skål," which is a bowl that fits beverages that was shared between people. Over the years, it evolved to essentially mean "cheers".
