The full form of GSLV is Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle. It is a class of expendable launch systems operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and is designed to launch communication satellites into geostationary orbits. The GSLV is a three-stage vehicle with solid, liquid, and cryogenic stages respectively, and has been used in fifteen launches since 2001. The cryogenic third stage is powered by a LOX/LH2 Cryogenic engine, which India did not possess or have the technological expertise to build at the time of the GSLVs initiation in 1990.
