Chandrayaan-3 is a planned third lunar exploration mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) . The mission aims to place a lander and rover on the lunar surface and operate them to conduct scientific experiments. The lander and rover configuration will be carried by the propulsion module until the spacecraft is in a 100km lunar orbit. The main function of the propulsion module is to carry the lander and rover from launch vehicle injection till final lunar 100 km circular polar orbit and separate the lander and rover from it. The lander for Chandrayaan-3 will have only four throttle-able engines, unlike Vikram on Chandrayaan-2 which had five 800 Newtons engines with a fifth one being centrally mounted with a fixed nozzle. The mission is aimed at the lunar south pole, a region with water ice, or frozen water, that could be a source of oxygen, fuel, and water.
