E-certificates are also used in the context of ship classification and statutory certifications. They are a convenient way for ship owners and operators to evidence the validity of their ships classification and statutory certifications.
In the context of e-signature certification service-providing organizations, an e-certificate means a data message issued by such an organization in order to verify that the certified agency is authorized to issue e-signatures.
It is important to note that in the UK, the E certificate is an unofficial rating sometimes applied to video titles that are exempt from being classified by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) as any of the other certificate categories.
