Transmasculine, sometimes abbreviated to transmasc, is an umbrella term that describes a transgender person (generally, but not exclusively, one who was assigned female at birth), and whose gender is masculine and/or who express themselves in a masculine way. Transmasculine people feel a connection with masculinity, but do not always identify as a man. Some transmasculine people use "they/them", "he/they", and sometimes even "she/her" pronouns. Being transmasculine doesn’t dictate which gender roles someone does or doesn’t follow. Transmasculine people may (or may not) express their gender through different clothing, hairstyles, grooming practices, and so forth. The term "transmasculine" is meant to be used for people who were assigned female at birth. It can also refer to non-binary or gender-fluid people who identify with masculinity. The term "trans man" usually refers to a person who was assigned female at birth and identifies as a man.
