Pluto is officially a mixed-breed dog but was originally designed and debuted as a Bloodhound in the 1930 Mickey Mouse cartoon "The Chain Gang." His design reflects traits typical of a Bloodhound, such as his prominent snout, long droopy ears, and yellow-orange color with black ears. Over time, Pluto's appearance evolved to look more like a thin mutt rather than a purebred Bloodhound. Disney animators created Pluto as a non-anthropomorphic dog, loyal and playful, unlike other Disney characters that walk and talk. So, while he is generally considered a mixed breed now, his origin and design are strongly based on the Bloodhound breed.
