Induction cooking requires cookware made with a magnetic metal, and not all types of pans will work on an induction cooktop or burner. Here are some types of pans that work on induction:
- Cast iron
- Enameled cast iron
- Magnetic stainless steel
- Nickel
- Fully clad cookware brands, such as All-Clad, Demeyere, Hammer Stahl, Hestan Nanobond, Le Creuset, and Zwilling
Its important to note that not all stainless steel pans are induction-compatible, as some may have a high nickel content that blocks the magnetic field. Additionally, aluminum, all-copper, or glass cookware will not work unless they have a layer on the bottom with magnetic properties. When purchasing cookware, check to see if the cookware is suitable for induction cooking. There will often be a symbol indicating induction compatibility on the retail box. To check if the cookware is suitable for induction cooking, test if the base is attracted by a magnet.
