Eight Republicans voted to oust Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker on October 3, 2023. They are:
- Andy Biggs of Arizona
- Ken Buck of Colorado
- Tim Burchett of Tennessee
- Eli Crane of Arizona
- Matt Gaetz of Florida
- Bob Good of Virginia
- Nancy Mace of South Carolina
- Matt Rosendale of Montana
It is worth noting that this vote was not the first time that McCarthy faced opposition from members of his own party. In January 2023, more than a dozen Republicans repeatedly voted against McCarthys bid for speaker, and all 20 of the lawmakers who defied McCarthy in that vote were among the most hard-right members of the chamber.
