Sleeping on your left side is the best sleeping position for acid reflux. This position helps reduce reflux episodes and exposure of the esophagus to stomach acid. When you sleep on your left side, gravity can return stomach acid to your stomach quicker than when you sleep on your right side or on your back. The shape of the stomach and the angle of the connection between it and the esophagus also make sleeping on your left side beneficial for acid reflux. Additionally, you may want to consider propping up the top of your bed by at least 6 inches to cut down on reflux symptoms when lying down.
