Wild rabbits have a plant-based diet, and they eat a variety of vegetation such as clover, dandelions, grasses, wildflowers, and leafy greens like kale and cabbage. Here are some dos and donts when feeding wild rabbits:

Dos:

  • Scatter the odds and ends of many fruits and vegetables used in cooking in the yard for wild rabbits.
  • Plant some vegetables, such as carrots and leafy lettuces, in the yard to help feed wild rabbits in a natural and nutritious way.
  • Give them fresh vegetables like kale or cabbage as well as small amounts of certain fruits every now and then (like strawberries!) .
  • Plant a variety of plants – like clover, dandelion greens, kale, oats, and rye grass – to offer them some delicious greens.

Donts:

  • Avoid feeding your wild rabbit anything with artificial preservatives or additives.
  • Do not feed them bananas and dried fruit, which are very high in sugar and should be fed only sparingly.
  • Do not feed them anything that could cause them tummy upset.

Its important to note that wild rabbits can find their own food, so its not necessary to feed them. However, if you choose to feed them, its recommended to check if they already have a good food source in the area before doing so.
