"What We Do in the Shadows" is a 2014 New Zealand mockumentary horror comedy film. The film is written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who also star in the film along with Jonathan Brugh, Ben Fransham, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Stu Rutherford, and Jackie van Beek. The plot of the film follows several vampires who live together in a flat in Wellington. The vampires are trying to get by in modern society, from paying rent and doing housework to trying to get invited into nightclubs. The introduction of Nicks human friend, Stu, changes the vampires' lives and attitudes towards the world around them. When Stu's life is threatened, the vampires discover that humans are worth fighting for, and that even though a heart may be cold and dead, it can still have feelings. The film was released theatrically on August 18, 2014, and received critical acclaim. It earned $6.9 million on a $1.6 million budget.
