Polly Pocket was first designed by Chris Wiggs in 1983 for his daughter, and the first Polly Pocket toys appeared in stores in 1989. The toys were originally small plastic dolls and accessories that came in pocket-size cases, resembling a miniature dollhouse made from a makeup compact. The brand was initially licensed by Bluebird Toys of Swindon, England, and later acquired by Mattel in 1998, which redesigned the dolls and continued the product line.
