Double demerits in New South Wales (NSW) for 2025 start at midnight on the day they begin and end at midnight on the last day. They apply during six specific public holiday periods throughout the year. For the upcoming period, double demerits will be in effect for the Labour Day long weekend from Friday, 3 October to Monday, 6 October 2025. After that, the next double demerit period runs from Wednesday, 24 December 2025 to Sunday, 4 January 2026, covering Christmas and New Year.
The double demerits periods for 2025 in NSW are:
- Australia Day: 24 January to 27 January
- Easter: 17 April to 21 April
- Anzac Day: 24 April to 27 April
- King’s Birthday: 6 June to 9 June
- Labour Day: 3 October to 6 October
- Christmas to New Year: 24 December 2025 to 4 January 2026.
During these periods, certain offences such as speeding, illegal use of mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts, and riding without a helmet attract double demerit points. The fines remain the same, but the points added to the licence are doubled.
