The film "Argo" is set in Tehran, Iran, during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. However, the movie was not filmed in Iran itself. Istanbul was used for scenes involving historical landmarks like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The film also used various studios and locations in Southern California to simulate the atmosphere of 1979 Iran and the covert Hollywood movie production that was part of the rescue mission cover story.
