Bosses Day, often called Boss's Day or National Boss Day, is generally observed annually on October 16 in the United States. If October 16 falls on a weekend, the celebration is typically moved to the closest working day. The day is dedicated for employees to show appreciation and thank their bosses for their leadership, kindness, and fairness throughout the year. This day originated in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance, registered it with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She chose October 16 as the date because it was her father's birthday, who was also her boss. Illinois officially recognized the day in 1962. While it is not a federal or public holiday, it is widely observed in workplaces across the U.S. and some other countries.
