The Viking Age is generally dated from around 793 AD to 1066 AD. It began with the Viking raid on the Anglo-Saxon monastery at Lindisfarne in 793 and ended with the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. This era represents nearly three centuries of Viking expansion, raiding, trading, and colonization across Northern Europe and beyond. However, some interpretations extend the broader Viking influence from the 8th century to as late as the 15th century. The Viking Age involved Norsemen traveling from Scandinavia to settle in places including the British Isles, Ireland, Normandy, Greenland, and even North America.
