when were the baltimore ravens founded

The Baltimore Ravens were founded in 1996. The team originated when Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell relocated his franchise to Baltimore, Maryland, but left behind the Browns' name, history, and colors in Cleveland for a future replacement team. The newly relocated team was renamed the Ravens, inspired by the famous poem "The Raven" by Baltimorean Edgar Allan Poe, and was considered an expansion team starting that year.
