The Jammu-Srinagar highway (NH44) was reopened for light motor vehicles after being closed for over two weeks due to landslides and heavy rains. However, as of September 14-15, 2025, the highway has not been fully restored and traffic is only allowed in a regulated manner. Small vehicles (LMVs) are allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar, but no traffic is allowed from Srinagar to Jammu on this highway currently. Heavy motor vehicles (trucks, buses) are not permitted in either direction due to road conditions and ongoing repair work. The movement is slow and only single-lane traffic is operational on some stretches like Tharad in Udhampur district. Travelers are advised to check with traffic control units for the latest updates before planning their journey on this highway. So, today the Jammu-Srinagar highway is partially open for light vehicles only in one direction (Jammu to Srinagar) with restrictions on heavy vehicles and traffic from Srinagar to Jammu.
