The Cook Islands are a group of small islands in the South Pacific Ocean, in Polynesia, between New Zealand and Hawaii. They lie northeast of New Zealand and west of French Polynesia.

The Cook Islands are in Oceania, in the central South Pacific, roughly halfway between Hawaii to the north and New Zealand to the southwest. They are situated east of Niue, Tonga, and Samoa, and west of French Polynesia.

The country consists of 15 islands spread over about 2 million square kilometers of ocean, divided into a Northern and a Southern group. The main island is Rarotonga, where the capital town Avarua is located.
