The Twin Towers, originally part of the World Trade Center complex, were located in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City. The original World Trade Center site was bounded by Vesey Street to the north, West Side Highway to the west, Liberty Street to the south, and Church Street to the east. The Twin Towers stood on about 1 acre (4,000 m²) of the total 16 acres (65,000 m²) of the site's land. The original Twin Towers were destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The site, often referred to as "Ground Zero" immediately after the attacks, has since been redeveloped and now includes the new One World Trade Center skyscraper as part of the reconstructed World Trade Center complex.
