The Washington Commanders are an NFL team originally founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves in Boston, Massachusetts. They changed their name to the Boston Redskins in 1933 and relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1937. Since then, they have been based in the Washington metropolitan area. Today, their home stadium is FedExField in Landover, Maryland, and their training facility and headquarters are in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area including Ashburn, Virginia. The team officially adopted the name Washington Commanders in 2022, after previously being known as the Washington Football Team for two seasons, following the retirement of the Redskins name in 2020.
