Your National Insurance number can be found in several places:
- On documents you already have such as your payslip, P60, or letters about tax, benefits, or pensions from HMRC or the Department for Work and Pensions.
- In your personal tax account online if you have one.
- In the HMRC app if you live in the UK.
- In your Apple or Google Wallet if you've saved it there previously.
- If you cannot find it online or on paperwork, you can request it by post through HMRC by filling out a form (CA5403) or by contacting the National Insurance helpline. It usually takes up to 10 working days for the number to be sent to your address.
- If you live abroad, you must contact HMRC to get a letter confirming your National Insurance number, which may take up to 21 working days.
Your National Insurance number is made up of two letters, six numbers, and a final letter (e.g., QQ123456B).
