Afrikaans is primarily spoken in South Africa and Namibia. It is one of the official languages of South Africa, spoken by about 14% of the population, roughly 7 million people, and it is also widely used in the southern part of Namibia, where it is recognized as a national language though not an official one. Besides these, Afrikaans speakers can be found in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and to smaller extents in countries like Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States due to migration and diaspora communities. It is especially prevalent in South Africa's Western Cape, Northern Cape, and parts of the Eastern Cape and Gauteng provinces.
