Ayr is a rural town and locality in Queensland, Australia, located in the Shire of Burdekin. It lies on the northern approach to the Burdekin Bridge, approximately 88 kilometers southeast of Townsville. Ayr is known as a major center for sugarcane growing, as well as mangoes and vegetables, and serves as the administrative center for the Burdekin Shire Council. It is situated near the delta of the Burdekin River and lies on the Bruce Highway and North Coast railway line. Ayr has a population of around 8,600 people as of the 2021 census. The town has a tropical savanna climate with a wet season from December to April and a dry season from May to November.
