East Timor, also known as Timor-Leste, is a country in Southeast Asia. It occupies the eastern half of the island of Timor, along with some nearby small islands such as Atauro and Jaco, and the coastal exclave of Oecusse in the northwest part of the island. The country shares a land border with Indonesia to the west and lies north of Australia across the Timor Sea. Its capital and largest city is Dili, located on the north coast of the island. East Timor is situated at the eastern end of the Lesser Sunda Islands and is characterized by a tropical climate and mountainous terrain.
