Benalla is a small city located in the Hume region of Victoria, Australia. It sits on the Broken River, about 212 kilometers (approximately 130 miles) northeast of Melbourne, the state capital. The city serves as the administrative center for the Rural City of Benalla local government area and has a population of around 9,316 as of the 2021 census. It is situated midway between Euroa and Wangaratta on the main road and rail route between Melbourne and Sydney. The city is known for its historic buildings, art gallery, and natural attractions such as the Winton Wetlands and nearby state parks.
