Doha is the capital city of Qatar, located on the east coast of the Qatar Peninsula along the Persian Gulf. It sits roughly in the central part of the country's eastern coast, north of Al Wakrah and south of Al Khor and Lusail. Doha is the main financial hub and home to over 80% of Qatar's population, and it is situated on a shallow bay about 3 miles wide that opens into the Persian Gulf. The city spans an area of approximately 132 square kilometers and has been the capital since Qatar's independence in 1971.
