Lake George is a long, narrow freshwater lake located in northeastern New York state, United States. It lies at the southeastern base of the Adirondack Mountains. The lake extends about 32 miles (51 km) in length and ranges from 1 to 3 miles (1.6 to 5 km) in width. It is situated in Warren County and is part of the Adirondack Park region. Lake George is known for its clear water, scenic beauty, and is a popular resort area. The southern end of the lake is near the village of Lake George, and its northern end connects to Lake Champlain near the town of Ticonderoga. The lake is surrounded by mountains and contains over 170 islands, many of which are state-owned and available for camping with permits. It is also a primary source of drinking water for the surrounding communities and is designated as a Class AA-Special waterbody by New York State.
