Texas is located in the south-central region of the United States of America. It is bordered by New Mexico to the west, Oklahoma to the north, Arkansas to the northeast, and Louisiana to the east. To the southeast, Texas has a coastline along the Gulf of Mexico, and to the southwest, it shares an international border with the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. The state lies approximately at the coordinates 31° N latitude and 100° W longitude. Texas is the second largest state in the U.S. by both area and population, with Austin as its capital city and Houston as its largest city.
