The Western Cordillera is located in western North America. It extends from the U.S. state of Alaska through northwestern Canada, the western United States, and into Mexico. In Canada, it mainly covers British Columbia, the Yukon, southwestern Alberta, and parts of the Northwest Territories. The region includes major mountain ranges such as the Canadian Rockies, the Rocky Mountains, the Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, and the Coast Ranges. It is a vast system of rugged mountains running roughly north to south along the western edge of the continent, encompassing diverse landscapes and climates.
