where is your acl located

The ACL is in your knee joint and connects your thigh bone to your shin bone near the front of the joint.

Basic location

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sits in the center of the knee, deep inside the joint between the femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone). It runs diagonally and is one of the main structures that stabilizes the knee during cutting, pivoting, and sudden stops.

Relation to other ligaments

Inside the knee, the ACL and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) cross each other to form an “X,” with the ACL closer to the front and the PCL toward the back. The ACL differs from the MCL and LCL, which are located on the inner and outer sides of the knee rather than in the center of the joint.
