The proper length for a tie is when the tip of the wide end (the blade) ends right at the top of your waistband or belt buckle when you are standing in a natural posture. It should never be above the waistband nor hang below it. This length accommodates movement without looking sloppy, creates a balanced and professional appearance, and works well with most body shapes and heights. Slight variation of an inch or two is acceptable, but the goal is to have the tip reach the belt buckle area precisely. This rule applies to both diamond- tipped and square-ended ties, with the latter's flat edge ending at the middle of the waistband or belt.
