where was the twin towers

The Twin Towers, part of the original World Trade Center complex, were located in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City. The North Tower (1 World Trade Center) and the South Tower (2 World Trade Center) stood at coordinates approximately 40°42′42″N 74°00′45″W. They were situated on a 16-acre site bordered roughly by Vesey Street, Liberty Street, Church Street, and the West Side Highway. The site was entirely on landfill, with foundations extending down to bedrock about 70 feet below street level. The towers were completed in the early 1970s and were destroyed during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
