The movie Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is mostly set in the fictional town of Chimney Rock in upstate New York, but it was filmed primarily in the United Kingdom with some key shots in New York state.
Main filming locations
Most of the production took place in and around London and the Home Counties in England, including various locations in London itself and soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire. Additional exterior work was done at sites around Epping Forest and in Surrey to portray the town’s rural and woodland setting.
Church and graveyard
The exterior of the film’s church, “Our Lady of Perpetual Fortitude,” was shot at Holy Innocents Church in High Beach, Epping Forest, Essex. The church interior and some surrounding graveyard elements were built as sets and filmed on stages at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.
Town and New York shots
The fictional Chimney Rock is visually based in part on the real village of Cold Spring in the Hudson Valley, New York. Establishing and street shots for Chimney Rock were filmed in Cold Spring, including around Main Street and a local pizzeria used as the exterior of the town pub.
Other UK locations
Woodland and house exteriors connected to the church were filmed in Winterfold Forest and elsewhere in Surrey, standing in for the forests around Chimney Rock. Additional interiors and village exteriors were shot in Surrey villages such as Shere, which provided period-style buildings for offices and homes in the story.
