Place the candles into the menorah from right to left, but light them from left to right.
Candle placement
On the first night, put one candle in the far-right holder of the menorah when you are facing it.
On each subsequent night, add the new candle to the immediate left, so the row of candles grows toward the left.
Lighting order and direction
First light the shamash (the helper candle, usually raised or centered), then use it to light the others.
Always light the newest candle first, which will be the left‑most lit position that night, and then continue lighting toward the right.
