The people who can vote for the Mayor of London must meet the following criteria:
- Be registered to vote.
- Live in Greater London.
- Be at least 18 years old on the day of the election.
- Be a British citizen, an Irish citizen, a Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of an EU country such as Denmark, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, or Spain, with the necessary permissions to stay in the UK if required.
- Not be legally excluded from voting.
British citizens living overseas cannot vote in the Mayor of London elections. The Mayor of London election uses a first-past-the-post system, and voters vote once for their preferred candidate. The elections take place every four years.
