who created linux

Linux was created by Finnish software engineer Linus Torvalds in 1991 while he was a student at the University of Helsinki. He developed the Linux kernel as a free, open-source, UNIX-like operating system kernel for his personal computer, combining his programming efforts with open-source tools from the GNU Project to create a complete operating system. The project quickly gained popularity and grew with contributions from many developers worldwide.
