Nike was created by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. Bill Bowerman was a track and field coach at the University of Oregon, and Phil Knight was a middle- distance runner and student there. The company, originally named Blue Ribbon Sports, was founded in 1964 and later renamed Nike in 1971 after the Greek goddess of victory. The iconic "Swoosh" logo was created in the same year.
